Multi-Platform

So after tracking down the one source file I’d forgotten,

I got my Linux version compatible with the XP and OSX versions.

Here’s a screenie of three Torque Guys having tea on a ridge not far from lake Texcoco:

My next project is merging the AFX core into my Linux build.

Linux!!!!

After a week of trying to compile TGE under Fedora Linux, I finally took my friend Terry’s advice and just started over with Ubuntu. With more than a little help from the Garage Games forums, I managed to get Ubuntu installed and a working binary compiled in about three hours:

I still have a few network issues to resolve with the Linux version but should have it all groovy in a few days. Special thanks to Terry Williams for suggesting Ubuntu and Jason Peterson for the TGE resource to make it work.

Cross-Platform, baby!

So after a couple of weeks out on the road, I’ve had a bit of time to continue hacking away at Torque. Today I got a Windows binary compiled including the mods I’d done to my Mac version, and successfully implemented basic deathmatch/FPS style gameplay.

Here’s lookin’ at you, kid:

Aztlan 111607

While it may not look like much it’s an important breakthrough in that now I can find my way around two new and different compilers, Apple Xcode and Visual C++ 2k5, and compile the same code in both. Way Groovy. Now I can start working on the actual game itself, implementing my gameplay ideas in script and slowly replacing the stock Torque art with my own original resources.

Upcoming tasks are the building of a new PC for game development and team functionality.

Project Aztlan Reborn

Greetings…

With the recent release of Constructor and Intel-Mac friendly code updates to the Torque Game Engine (TGE) from Garage Games I’ve resumed my late night, over-caffienated habit of tinkering with game design ideas. I just got my first xCode Universal Binary project compiled using the Torque project as a base and now I have a working Mac game engine again. This has inspired me to work on one of my pet projects, a raza-themed game world I’ve given the working title of Project Aztlan. I’ve implemented a number of different computer, paper-n-dice and minatures game ideas using Aztlan as the theme. To test my code I updated some existing content I’d done in TGE 1.2 and here’s the result:

This is basically the stock TGE 1.5.2 code with the addition of James Laker’s updated GuiRadarCtrl and Thomas Lund’s Advanced Camera code. In addition I have the ogg format sounds working, which I hadn’t done in my previous mac versions. I still have a couple of vehicle and environmental scripts to update but I should have all the functionality of my 1.2 version working soon…

…Time to brew another pot of La Llave…
